Paul Graham has written another excellent article titled What You'll Wish You'd Known, things he wishes somebody had told him in high school. From the /. entry:

Just watched a little comedy clip from the beeb called Ipod World. Sends up the silliness of making everything ipod-like. Loved it.

How did we find ourselves living in a bad novel? indeed. Paul Krugman's NY Times piece paints outlandish elements of what would be a spectacularly bad novel. All of which are true of our current times. Bizzarre. But true.

Via the AP - Gates endures computer crash during CES keynote speech
( quiet chuckles :) )
"During a demonstration of digital photography with a soon-to-be-released Nikon camera, a Windows Media Center PC froze and wouldn't respond to Gates' pushing of the remote control."

Just discovered MathWorld from a post by Kirby Urner on the Python Edu-Siq mailing list. MathWorld is an incredibly powerful resource for Math thought and learning. Makes sense coming from Wolfram the company behind Mathematica. Still, commercial leverage aside, highly recommended.

Really enjoyed watching the keynote video from CES with Conan O'Brien intreviewing Bill Gates and really enjoyed the repeated windows crashes happening throughout. My favorite line :
"I got so drunk that I woke up with a hooker, Bill got so drunk he woke up with an Apple computer."-- Conan, recounting his Vegas late night with Bill.

The Economist has a story titled Meritocracy in America that asks "Whatever happened to the belief that any American could get to the top?"
This is a central issue for me, since it's been a real focus for me, a dream in many ways, to help capable workers to climb their way out of dead-end careers and into software development. swdev.org is an artifact of that effort. Time, the CallPrint Fiasco and changing demand in software has deeply discouraged those dreams. The Economist Story taps some of the issues surrounding our loss of a true Meritocracy. Give it a read!
